R Discovery is an academic research platform from Cactus Communications, an India-based scholarly-communications company. It searches an index it puts at more than 300 million papers and recommends new ones from a researcher's reading history, then layers AI features on top: an assistant that answers questions with cited papers, chat with a paper's PDF, literature review generation, literature maps, translation into 30-plus languages and papers read aloud. It runs as a web app, iOS and Android apps, a Chrome extension and an app inside ChatGPT, and reading lists sync to Zotero or Mendeley on the paid tier. The free tier caps the AI tools at a few uses a day; Prime removes the caps.
