What our research says

Quizlet

Quizlet is still the default for exam-cramming flashcards because the library is enormous and the free tier covers set creation and the main study modes; the AI additions are convenient rather than essential. Pay for Plus if you hate ads or want the generated practice tests, but if you care about long-term retention, Anki's free spaced repetition remains the stronger tool.

Pros

Largest public library of study sets, searchable by course and textbook
Set creation, Learn, Test and Match modes are free, with ads
Plus is free for verified teachers, and school licences exist
Web, iOS and Android apps with offline study on mobile

Cons

Free tier shows ads and holds back the AI practice tests and explanations
Site and apps have moved features in and out of the paywall repeatedly, so older advice is unreliable
Annual plan auto-renews after the 7-day trial and the monthly plan has no trial
No public API for building on the set library

Vertech Academy

Vertech Academy repackages access to several commercial models as a study product, adding quizzes, study guides and prepared courses on top. The rolling three-hour message window on the entry plan is unusual and worth understanding before buying. At $29 a month it costs more than a direct ChatGPT Plus subscription, so the courses and study scaffolding have to carry the difference — and the operation looks like one person with a Gmail contact address.

Pros

Routes across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and DeepSeek from a single subscription
Bundles practice quizzes, study guides and nine prepared academic courses
14-day free trial on both tiers with a 60-day money-back promise
Prices are published plainly, which is rarer in this category than it should be

Cons

$29/month exceeds a direct subscription to any single underlying model
Entry tier is capped at 100 messages per rolling three-hour window
No company entity, address or country is disclosed — only a founder name and a Gmail address
The .ca domain in the listing redirects to .com, so the stated Canadian tie is unverified
