Pricing

Pricing model: Freemium

quizlet.com returns 403 to non-browser requests, so the upgrade page could not be read today; search snippets of the vendor's upgrade page show Quizlet Plus billed yearly at $35.99 (about $2.99 a month) with a 7-day trial on the annual plan only, but the snapshot may be stale and the monthly-billed rate is not visible. Plus is free for verified teachers, and group and school licences are sold separately.

Overview

About Quizlet

Quizlet stores flashcard sets — hundreds of millions made by students and teachers — and layers study modes on top: Learn, Test, Match and spaced-repetition review, plus AI features that turn uploaded notes or a textbook problem into a study set, a practice test or a step-by-step explanation. It is used mainly by school and university students across the web and iOS and Android apps. The core set creation and study modes are free with ads; Quizlet Plus removes ads and unlocks the AI study tools, and the vendor made Plus free for verified teachers. The company was started in 2005 by a high-school student and is headquartered in San Francisco.

Editorial verdict

Pros & cons of Quizlet

low confidence

Quizlet is still the default for exam-cramming flashcards because the library is enormous and the free tier covers set creation and the main study modes; the AI additions are convenient rather than essential. Pay for Plus if you hate ads or want the generated practice tests, but if you care about long-term retention, Anki's free spaced repetition remains the stronger tool.

Pros

Largest public library of study sets, searchable by course and textbook
Set creation, Learn, Test and Match modes are free, with ads
Plus is free for verified teachers, and school licences exist
Web, iOS and Android apps with offline study on mobile

Cons

Free tier shows ads and holds back the AI practice tests and explanations
Site and apps have moved features in and out of the paywall repeatedly, so older advice is unreliable
Annual plan auto-renews after the 7-day trial and the monthly plan has no trial
No public API for building on the set library

Best for

Students who want ready-made sets for a class and the Learn and Test modes without paying
Teachers, who get Plus free and can assign sets to a class
Quick conversion of notes or a textbook photo into a practice test before an exam

Not for

Serious spaced-repetition users — Anki's scheduler and plugins go further and cost nothing
Anyone who needs a stable published price: the paid tier blocks fetches and has changed often

Watch out: The free trial applies only to the yearly plan and auto-bills for the full year when it ends, so set a reminder if you only want it for one exam.
