Use tool ↗About Photoroom
Photoroom cuts a product out of a phone photo and puts it on a clean, generated or branded background, then extends that into the rest of a seller's visual pipeline: AI backgrounds and shadows, fashion models and virtual try-on, product staging, short video ads, resizing for each marketplace, batch processing across a catalogue and a Shopify sync. It runs on iPhone, Android and the web with team workspaces of up to 50 seats, and the same engine is sold as an API priced per image with a free watermarked sandbox. The company is a Paris SAS that began in 2019 and says it processes several billion images a year for more than a million brands. Paid plans bundle unlimited core tools with a monthly pool of AI credits and an export quota.

Pros & cons of Photoroom
For anyone listing physical products, Photoroom is the fastest route from a kitchen-table photo to a marketplace-ready image, and the batch and Shopify tools mean it scales from one seller to a catalogue team. The pricing is two meters stacked - AI credits for the generative tools and an export cap on top - so a seller who mostly removes backgrounds pays little, while video and virtual-model output burns credits quickly. Developers get a clean per-image API with a real free sandbox, which is rarer than it should be.
Pros
- Background removal and the other core tools are unmetered on every paid plan
- Batch processing, catalogue management and a Shopify sync cover the whole listing workflow
- API at $0.02 to $0.10 per image with a free monthly sandbox and MCP access for agents
- Established Paris company with a large user base, not a thin wrapper
Cons
- Exports are capped per month (1,000 on Pro) on top of the credit pool
- Headline prices are annual; Max and Ultra prices were not readable on the page today
- Video generation and virtual models consume credits fast - Pro allows no video at all
- No free plan is listed on the web pricing page; only the API has a stated free allowance
Best for
- Marketplace and Shopify sellers producing listing images in volume
- Small fashion brands that want on-model shots without a photoshoot
- Developers who need background removal or product staging as an API call
Not for
- Photographers and retouchers who need layer-level control - it is a product tool, not an editor
- Teams that want a single flat price; credits, exports and API calls are three separate allowances
Watch out: The $7.50 headline is billed yearly, and the export cap counts every saved image including batch and Shopify syncs - a catalogue of a few thousand SKUs exhausts Pro in one pass.
