What our research says

Avatar AI

The avatar library is broad and the per-plan credit maths is published plainly, which is more than most portrait generators manage. The catch is identity: the product you are buying is Photo AI, and the Avatar AI name now survives only as a redirect.

Pros

  • Credit allowances and quality tiers are stated per plan rather than hidden
  • Annual billing is roughly half the monthly rate
  • One trained model feeds avatars, headshots, try-ons and video
  • Independent, self-funded operator with no investor pressure on pricing

Cons

  • No free tier: a paid plan is needed before training a model
  • Cheapest plan is capped at low quality and one image at a time
  • No API, and the previously available iOS app has been discontinued

Remini

One of the strongest one-tap fixes for faces and old family photos, which is why its user numbers are so large. The catch is pricing structure: weekly auto-renewing subscriptions sold in-app with no public price list, which makes casual use expensive if you forget to cancel.

Pros

  • Face reconstruction quality is the product's core strength
  • Runs on web, iOS and Android with the same account
  • Free tier exists for occasional single-photo jobs
  • Handles video enhancement, not just stills

Cons

  • Weekly subscription framing obscures the real annual cost
  • Prices differ by region and platform and are only visible at checkout
  • Aggressive enhancement can invent facial detail, a known trait of face-restoration models

Which one fits

Choose Avatar AI if you need

  • Anyone wanting stylised portraits of themselves in bulk from a selfie set
  • Creators building a consistent persona across profile pictures and posts
  • People who also want headshots, outfit try-ons and short clips from one model

Choose Remini if you need

  • Restoring old or damaged family photos
  • Sharpening low-resolution phone shots before printing
  • Quick face-focused enhancement without learning an editor
