What our research says

OpusClip

The default choice for turning a podcast or webinar into shorts, provided you accept that a human still has to reject a good share of the clips it picks. Pro now costs half as much on annual billing, which makes it the plan to compare against rivals; the free tier is for judging quality, not for publishing.

Pros

Reframing and animated captions are good enough to post without touch-up
Clip score gives a usable first-pass ordering of candidates
Free tier is a real plan, not a trial, so output quality is checkable first
Pro exports to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve and costs $14.50 a month on annual billing

Cons

Free exports carry a watermark, allow no editing and stop being exportable after three days
Clip selection still needs manual review; the score is a hint, not a verdict
Starter is monthly-only, so the annual discount applies only from Pro up
Full API access and custom integrations sit behind quote-only Business; Pro gets limited API access

Wistia Remix

The most interesting part is that it edits across several sources at once and understands the spoken track, so a webinar plus b-roll can become a recap without a manual assembly pass. It only makes sense if you are already on or willing to join Wistia, because the editor is a feature of the hosting platform rather than a standalone tool.

Pros

Edits across multiple sources including uploaded footage and YouTube links
Understands both visuals and spoken audio to find the right moments
Iterative refinement through follow-up instructions in plain language
Output lands in Wistia's library with its existing analytics and player
Drivable from external AI agents through Wistia's MCP server

Cons

Effectively bundled with Wistia hosting, which jumps to $79/month past the free tier
Free tier of the surrounding platform is one user and carries Wistia branding
Remix's own usage limits on the free tier are not published
No detail on export resolution or project length limits
