What our research says

Bytecap

Covers the whole loop from long recording to scheduled post, which is more than most clippers attempt — captions, reframe, B-roll, thumbnail and publishing sit in one workspace instead of four tools. Credits are the constraint: 150 a month on Starter goes quickly once B-roll and 4K exports are involved, and there is no API to script around it.

Pros

  • Clipping, auto-reframe, word-level captions, B-roll and thumbnails in one pass
  • Publishes and schedules directly to connected social channels with analytics
  • Free tier is usable for evaluation, at 50 credits a month with watermarks
  • 4K/60fps export, custom fonts and templates on Pro

Cons

  • No public API
  • Credit accounting is opaque until you read the comparison table
  • Free exports carry a watermark
  • One-person operation, so support and roadmap depend on a single maintainer

OpusClip

The default choice for turning a podcast or webinar into shorts, provided you accept that a human still has to reject a good share of the clips it picks. Pro now costs half as much on annual billing, which makes it the plan to compare against rivals; the free tier is for judging quality, not for publishing.

Pros

  • Reframing and animated captions are good enough to post without touch-up
  • Clip score gives a usable first-pass ordering of candidates
  • Free tier is a real plan, not a trial, so output quality is checkable first
  • Pro exports to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve and costs $14.50 a month on annual billing

Cons

  • Free exports carry a watermark, allow no editing and stop being exportable after three days
  • Clip selection still needs manual review; the score is a hint, not a verdict
  • Starter is monthly-only, so the annual discount applies only from Pro up
  • Full API access and custom integrations sit behind quote-only Business; Pro gets limited API access
