What our research says

OpusClip

The default choice for turning a podcast or webinar into shorts, provided you accept that a human still has to reject a good share of the clips it picks. Pro now costs half as much on annual billing, which makes it the plan to compare against rivals; the free tier is for judging quality, not for publishing.

Pros

  • Reframing and animated captions are good enough to post without touch-up
  • Clip score gives a usable first-pass ordering of candidates
  • Free tier is a real plan, not a trial, so output quality is checkable first
  • Pro exports to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve and costs $14.50 a month on annual billing

Cons

  • Free exports carry a watermark, allow no editing and stop being exportable after three days
  • Clip selection still needs manual review; the score is a hint, not a verdict
  • Starter is monthly-only, so the annual discount applies only from Pro up
  • Full API access and custom integrations sit behind quote-only Business; Pro gets limited API access

Videnly

A generate-and-publish pipeline rather than a video editor: the point is that the clip goes out to your networks without you touching a scheduler. The API, Zapier connector and MCP endpoint are the real differentiator against the many prompt-to-video tools that stop at a download button. Entry is now $49 a month with no free tier and no refund, and credit pricing still hides the real per-video cost.

Pros

  • Handles script, visuals, voiceover, captions and cuts in one pass from a single prompt
  • Publishes and schedules directly to up to eight networks including Threads and X
  • Offers a developer API, a Zapier connector and an MCP endpoint for agent-driven use
  • Shows the estimated credit cost before each generation

Cons

  • Priced in credits, so the number of videos per plan is not stated anywhere
  • No free tier, and the terms make subscription fees and unused credits nonrefundable
  • Pinterest, LinkedIn, Threads and X publishing needs the $99 Premium plan
  • No legal entity is named; only US governing law appears in the terms
