Overview

About Napkin AI

Napkin AI works from text you already have: paste or import a document, select a passage, and it proposes several visuals - diagrams, flowcharts, mind maps, infographics or data charts - that you pick from and then edit freely, down to colours, fonts and individual elements. Results export as PNG, PDF, SVG or PowerPoint for slides, blogs, docs and social posts. Napkin Slides (beta) builds whole decks, and an API generates brand-matched visuals from text inside other products. Usage is metered in AI credits at roughly one credit per word selected. It was built by Pramod Sharma and Jerome Scholler, the founders of Osmo, and launched out of stealth in 2024.

Pros & cons of Napkin AI

high confidence

Napkin is a quick way for writers, teachers and consultants to add a clear diagram to a slide or post without opening a design tool. Designers who need pixel-level layout control or long, data-heavy charts will outgrow it.

Pros

  • Works from existing text instead of prompts
  • Every generated element stays editable
  • Exports to PPT and SVG on paid plans, PNG and PDF on Free
  • Free weekly credits cover light use

Cons

  • Free visuals carry Napkin branding
  • Credits scale with words selected, so long passages burn through them
  • No student or non-profit discounts

Best for

  • Consultants and managers turning bullet points into slide diagrams
  • Bloggers and teachers adding explanatory visuals to text
  • Products that need visuals generated from text via API

Not for

  • Designers wanting full layout control from a blank canvas
  • Analysts building large, data-driven charts

Watch out: Headline prices are per seat on yearly billing; month-to-month is $12 and $30, and every member who accepts a teamspace invite adds a paid seat.
