What our research says

LangChain

The default starting point for agent development: no other framework matches its integration catalog, documentation volume or hiring-market familiarity. The catch is churn and depth — major versions have repeatedly rewritten core APIs, and once you need observability or managed deployment you are steered toward the paid LangSmith platform.

Pros

  • Integrations for 1,000+ models, tools, vector stores and databases
  • MIT license with a large contributor community
  • LangGraph runtime adds persistence, rewind and human-in-the-loop control
  • Python and JavaScript keep parity for most features

Cons

  • History of breaking API changes between major versions
  • Layers of abstraction complicate debugging versus direct SDK calls
  • Production observability and deployment funnel into commercial LangSmith

Lyzr

The pitch that distinguishes it from another agent framework is the control plane over agents you did not build in Lyzr — one place for tracing, guardrails and audit across frameworks and clouds. Per-run pricing with no seat licence is unusually clean for enterprise software. Whether the governance layer earns its keep depends on how many agents you already have in production.

  • Control plane spans agents built on AWS, Azure, GCP, LangChain and custom frameworks
  • Simulation engine tests agent behaviour before it reaches production
  • Hallucination detection, PII masking and audit logging built into the run price
  • VPC and on-premises deployment keeps data out of the vendor's hands
  • Per-run pricing with no seat licences or minimum commitments advertised

Cons

  • No free tier and no self-serve trial published
  • LLM token costs sit on top of the per-run price, so the real bill is not $0.08
  • Self-hosting at $0.03 per run still means running and paying for your own compute
  • A per-run unit is hard to forecast until you know how chatty your agents are

  • Developers who want abundant examples, courses and community answers
