What our research says

Klaviyo

The default marketing stack for Shopify-scale e-commerce because its data model is built around customer events rather than lists, so predictive fields and AI-built segments actually have something to work with. The free tier is a sandbox, the real cost climbs with active profiles, and once SMS, Composer usage and service modules are switched on the invoice has several meters, not one.

Pros

  • Pricing by active profiles with a real free tier (250 profiles, 500 sends) and no card
  • Predictive churn, lifetime value and next-order date per profile built in
  • Composer builds and audits flows and campaigns from natural-language prompts
  • Public REST API with maintained SDKs in Python, PHP, Ruby and more
  • Email, SMS/MMS, push and a helpdesk module share one customer profile

Cons

  • Costs step up with every active-profile band; the $20 entry price covers only 251–500 profiles
  • SMS, Composer usage and support packages are separate meters on top of the plan
  • The pricing page shows the entry bands and leaves larger bands to a calculator
  • The platform has widened into service and analytics, adding modules a small brand will not use

Promi

Most stores run one coupon for everyone and eat the margin on shoppers who would have converted anyway; Promi's whole argument is that the discount should vary by visitor. Targeting rules and built-in A/B measurement make that testable rather than a leap of faith. The pricing is the complication: a revenue-banded subscription plus a percentage of attributed revenue means the bill moves with your success.

Pros

  • Discount depth varies per shopper rather than one code for the whole site
  • Targeting rules can exclude paid traffic or treat members separately
  • Impact is measured by a built-in A/B test rather than before-and-after guesswork
  • Offers can be shown as strikethroughs, pop-ups or email, not just one surface

Cons

  • No free tier; the cheapest entry is $99 a month plus a revenue overage
  • Percentage overage on attributed revenue makes the real monthly bill variable
  • Uplift figures such as +24% revenue per visitor are vendor-reported averages with no methodology
  • The company publishes no address or country, only a founders@ email

Which one fits

Choose Klaviyo if you need

  • E-commerce brands on Shopify, WooCommerce or similar with real order data to segment on
  • Teams that want churn, lifetime-value and next-order predictions without a data scientist
  • Marketers who want flows and campaigns drafted from a prompt and audited by the same assistant

Choose Promi if you need

  • Direct-to-consumer stores that discount heavily and want to protect margin
  • Merchants already on Klaviyo who want offers coordinated across site and email
  • Teams willing to run an A/B test rather than trust a blanket promo
