What our research says

Jira

Jira is not an AI-native product; it's a two-decade-old issue tracker that has bundled Atlassian Intelligence and Rovo into its paid tiers rather than being built around AI from the start. That makes it a safe choice if a team is already standardized on Atlassian tools and just wants drafting, summarization, and agent features layered on top, not a reason to switch on its own if a team isn't using Jira already.

Pros

  • AI features (drafting, summarization, JQL correction) are bundled into paid plans rather than sold as a separate add-on
  • Rovo agents can read and write across Jira and Confluence, not just answer questions
  • Mature, widely adopted issue-tracking core with deep customization
  • Free tier available for small teams

Cons

  • AI credit pools are capped per seat by tier, so heavy AI use can run out before the month ends
  • Jira's configuration complexity is a known adoption barrier independent of its AI features
  • Premium and Enterprise pricing adds up quickly for larger teams, and Enterprise pricing isn't public

monday.com

The most visual of the big work platforms, and the easiest to get a non-technical team onto. The AI layer is broad — agents, notetaker, triage, workflow builder — but metered by credits, which makes it hard to predict what heavy use costs. Splitting CRM, service and dev into separately priced products means the real bill is usually higher than the headline seat price.

Pros

  • Boards, automations, forms, docs and dashboards without writing code
  • Four product lines share one platform: work management, CRM, service, dev
  • AI notetaker, ticket triage, workflow builder and agent workforce built in
  • Public company with a long track record, founded 2012 and listed

Cons

  • Free plan is capped at two seats, effectively a trial
  • AI features consume a separate credit pool on top of seat cost
  • CRM and Service lines are priced well above the work-management tiers
  • Pricing is billing-country dependent, so quoted currency and figures shift by region

Which one fits

Choose Jira if you need

  • Teams already using Jira who want AI summaries and drafting without switching tools
  • Organizations wanting cross-product search and agents across Jira and Confluence via Rovo
  • Software teams needing mature issue-tracking features (backlogs, sprints, JQL) beyond AI

Choose monday.com if you need

  • Non-technical teams who need visual boards and no-code automations
  • Organisations that want CRM, service desk and project work on one underlying platform
  • Teams willing to trade per-seat cost for fast adoption
