Still the default for catching mistakes inside other people's software, but the free tier has quietly become an AI-prompt meter and the honest price is $30 unless you commit to a full year.

Pros

  • Runs inside the apps people already write in rather than as a separate editor
  • Free tier still covers spelling, grammar and tone detection with no time limit
  • Pro folds in plagiarism and AI-text detection that rivals charge for separately

Cons

  • The $12 headline is the annual rate; paying monthly costs $30
  • Free AI allowance is 100 prompts a month and depletes quickly
  • No public API, so it cannot be embedded in another product
  • Enterprise pricing is not published anywhere on the site

ReText

A competent multi-tool rewriter that is notably better at Russian than the English-first competition, and cheap — a million characters per tool for the price of a coffee. The uncomfortable part is the positioning: the site sells detection-bypass as a feature, which is a different product from a writing assistant.

  • Three paraphrase intensities plus separate synonym replacement
  • Grammar checking tuned to language-specific rules rather than translated English rules
  • Summarise, expand and chat-based generation in the same account
  • DOCX and TXT upload plus a browser extension
  • Premium allowance is a million characters per tool, which is generous at the price

Cons

  • Free tier is roughly 1,000 characters a day per tool — a demo, not a usable free plan
  • The $7 rate needs six months paid up front; the true monthly rate is higher
  • No API and no named company or country anywhere on the site
  • Only four languages supported
