FragCut vs OpusClip

FragCut

A focused tool that does the tedious part of streaming: scrubbing a four-hour VOD for the thirty seconds worth posting. Pulling directly from a Twitch URL rather than requiring a download is the detail that saves the most time. It is one person's product priced like a funded one, though a 14-day money-back guarantee now makes a first month low-risk.

Pros

• +Imports straight from a Twitch VOD URL as well as uploaded MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV
• +Detection is tuned to gameplay events like kills, aces and clutches rather than generic scene changes
• +Outputs vertical 9:16 or horizontal 16:9 with optional burned-in subtitles
• +14-day money-back guarantee on any payment

Cons

• −No free tier; a paid plan is required before any video is processed
• −No company or legal entity named on the site; the terms only state Colorado law
• −Single-developer product with no public API found and no stated uptime commitment
• −Processing takes 15 to 30 minutes per video, longer for Twitch imports

OpusClip

The default choice for turning a podcast or webinar into shorts, provided you accept that a human still has to reject a good share of the clips it picks. Pro now costs half as much on annual billing, which makes it the plan to compare against rivals; the free tier is for judging quality, not for publishing.

Pros

• +Reframing and animated captions are good enough to post without touch-up
• +Clip score gives a usable first-pass ordering of candidates
• +Free tier is a real plan, not a trial, so output quality is checkable first
• +Pro exports to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve and costs $14.50 a month on annual billing

Cons

• −Free exports carry a watermark, allow no editing and stop being exportable after three days
• −Clip selection still needs manual review; the score is a hint, not a verdict
• −Starter is monthly-only, so the annual discount applies only from Pro up
• −Full API access and custom integrations sit behind quote-only Business; Pro gets limited API access
