Local desktop app that categorises bank CSVs on your machine and exposes them to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor over MCP
Expense Sorted has moved from a Google Sheets add-on and Chrome extension to a macOS and Windows desktop app. You import a bank CSV — no bank login, no aggregator — and a small machine-learning model running locally learns your merchants and categorises every row the same way each time. The database stays on your computer; an MCP server then lets Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor query it, so you ask your own assistant where the money went and it answers from complete, categorised data rather than a partly-read CSV. Pro adds the local model, semantic search and the agent tools for $49 once. Earlier Sheets Pro and extension buyers are migrated free.
The app downloads free and keeps rule-based categorisation forever. Local Pro is $49 once for a lifetime licence covering local model categorisation, semantic search and the MCP agent tools, after a 14-day trial that needs no card. A free Google Sheets template is offered as the no-cost alternative. Past Sheets Pro and Chrome extension buyers get Pro at no charge.
Use tool ↗The design argument is the interesting part: chat models are bad at bulk bookkeeping because a year of statements does not fit in a context window, so this runs a small local classifier for the boring work and lets your assistant query the clean database over MCP. Nothing is uploaded and there is no bank linking. It is $49 once with no subscription — but it is one person's project, CSV import is manual, and there is no mobile app at all.
