What our research says

EssayFlow

EssayFlow is an essay generator sold on one promise — that the output will not trip Turnitin or GPTZero — and it prices that promise steeply. The detectability score next to each draft is at least honest about what it is for. Two things undercut it: the undetectable-word cap of 5,000 a month never moves regardless of tier, so the expensive plans buy volume of ordinary output, and no operating company or country is disclosed.

Pros

  • Reports a detectability score alongside every generated essay
  • Support for over 50 languages
  • Free plan lets you judge output quality before paying
  • Annual billing cuts the entry price from $27.98 to $17.98 a month

Cons

  • The 5,000 undetectable-word allowance is identical on every tier, including Unlimited
  • Entry price is high for what is fundamentally text generation
  • No company name, country or corporate identity published
  • Detector evasion is a moving target with no guarantee attached

Jenni AI

The clearest fit when your writing is citation-heavy and the real problem is finding the source and citing it correctly, not generating 800 words. Students testing the free tier will hit the daily caps inside a single session.

Pros

  • Citations inserted in 10,000+ styles and tied back to the uploaded source document
  • Semantic search across a large body of papers is built in, so reading and drafting stay in one tab
  • Export to .docx and LaTeX means it slots into existing submission workflows
  • $12/month entry tier undercuts most general-purpose writing assistants

Cons

  • Free plan limits are per day and very small, which makes real evaluation slow
  • No developer API and no obvious team or institutional tier
  • Grounding reduces but does not eliminate the need to verify every generated reference
  • Coverage of paywalled or very recent literature depends on what you can upload yourself

Which one fits

Choose EssayFlow if you need

  • Drafting and outlining long-form academic writing

  • Rewriting existing drafts into a different register

Choose Jenni AI if you need

  • Literature reviews and thesis chapters where every claim needs a traceable reference
  • Non-native English speakers polishing academic register
  • Researchers already living in Zotero or Mendeley who want drafting in the same loop
