What our research says

DomoAI

The niche it genuinely owns is turning live-action footage into anime without a frame-by-frame pipeline; everything else in the app is table stakes available cheaper elsewhere. Test it on a ten-second clip before you commit to a tier.

Pros

  • Reference-image-driven video restyling is still uncommon and holds up reasonably well
  • Entry tier is genuinely cheap at $6.99/month and no paid tier watermarks output
  • Higher tiers include an unmetered slow lane, which caps your effective cost per month
  • Documented enterprise API with its own dashboard for keys and usage tracking

Cons

  • One credit pool is shared across images, video, lip sync and upscaling, so video work drains it fast
  • Advertised prices are the yearly-billing rate; paying monthly costs more
  • Temporal consistency still wobbles on fast motion and busy backgrounds
  • Corporate disclosure is thin — a footer entity name and a Discord server

EbSynth

The right tool when you need a specific human-painted look held consistently across a shot — it has real broadcast credits on Undone and Wednesday. Do not buy it expecting a text-prompt video generator; there is no prompt box driving the core effect.

Pros

  • deterministic texture synthesis produces far less temporal flicker than diffusion-based stylisation
  • actual production credits on broadcast animation, not just demo reels
  • the free tier is capped on resolution rather than watermarked, so free output is genuinely usable at 720p
  • offline command-line build for studios that cannot upload client footage

Cons

  • output quality is bounded by how well you paint the keyframe — it amplifies skill rather than replacing it
  • browser-only and desktop-only for the standard product, with nothing on mobile
  • breaks down when subjects rotate or occlude heavily between keyframes
  • no public API, and Studio tier pricing is contact-only

Which one fits

Choose DomoAI if you need

  • Creators converting live-action clips into anime or illustrated styles
  • Short-form editors who need stylised b-roll quickly
  • Developers wanting anime restyling behind an API rather than a UI

Choose EbSynth if you need

  • rotoscoping and stylised animation over live-action footage
  • digital makeup, tattoos and beauty retouching propagated across a clip
  • artists who need their own painting style preserved exactly, not approximated
  • short clips where diffusion-based stylisers produce unusable flicker
