CoWriter AI vs Writesonic

CoWriter AI

Bundles the things a student actually opens five tabs for — drafting, citations, plagiarism check — into one $11.99 workspace, and the free citation generators are useful on their own. The terms are where this turns sour: no refunds under any circumstances and an explicit request that you waive chargeback rights. That, plus the AI-detection-evasion pitch, makes it a tool to enter with eyes open.

Pros

• +Citation generators for APA, MLA, Chicago, IEEE, Harvard, Vancouver, CSE and more
• +Plagiarism detection and grammar checking alongside drafting
• +Free standalone tools usable without a subscription
• +Named legal entity, ProtonLabs Technology Inc, in the footer

Cons

• −Terms state all sales are final with no refunds, credits or pro-rata reimbursement
• −Terms ask users to waive the right to dispute or charge back any transaction
• −Markets AI-detection evasion, which conflicts with most academic integrity policies
• −No country, address or API published

Writesonic

This is not the AI copywriter the catalogs still describe: it is a GEO tracking suite priced like one, and at $79 a month on annual billing you are paying monitoring money for a three-engine view of your own brand. The free plan that used to soften the entry is gone; what is left is a 7-day trial.

Pros

• +Daily prompt and answer tracking is the core of the product, not a bolt-on dashboard
• +Site audits, content generation and the Action Center sit in the same tool as the monitoring
• +7-day trial with full access and no card, plus a 7-day refund window after paying

Cons

• −Self-serve plans watch three engines out of nine; Perplexity, Claude and Copilot are Enterprise-only
• −Month-to-month costs 25% more than the advertised annual rate ($99 against $79 on Starter)
• −No permanent free plan is listed any more, only a one-week trial
• −Prompt and article caps reset monthly, so a burst of work stalls until the counter resets
