Use tool ↗About Codev
Codev is a hosting and backend layer for apps made by AI coding agents. The user copies a prompt into Claude Code, Codex or another agent, installs the Codev skill, describes the app, and the agent builds it while Codev provides a managed backend with saved data, sign-in and secrets, then publishes it to a live URL. Custom domains with automatic HTTPS, private source with version history, rollback and exports, and public, password or email-restricted access are included. Because it reuses an existing agent plan, Codev bills only for hosting and backend usage. Earlier versions of the product were a chat-based builder for full-stack Next.js apps.

Pros & cons of Codev
Codev suits people who already pay for a coding agent and want a place to publish what it builds without wiring up hosting, a database and sign-in by hand. The agent-first workflow keeps costs low but means you depend on that agent's quality and limits. Anyone expecting a self-contained chat builder with its own AI included should look at older-style tools instead.
Pros
- Works with agents you already pay for rather than adding another AI bill
- Managed backend with saved data, sign-in and secrets is included
- Custom domains with HTTPS, rollback, exports and access controls
- Free tier needs no credit card
Cons
- Output quality depends on the agent and the prompts, not on Codev
- Little public information about the company, legal terms or security practices
- Plan allowances on requests, storage and backend operations are capped
Best for
- Claude Code or Codex users who want one-step publishing with a backend
- Non-developers making small personal or team apps who still want a live link
- Makers who want to keep private source and roll back versions
Not for
- People with no AI agent subscription, since the building itself happens in your agent
- Teams that need a product with a documented public API and published security details
Watch out: Codev replaced an earlier chat-based builder of the same name, so tutorials and reviews that describe generating Next.js and Supabase apps in a chat window are out of date. Usage limits reset monthly rather than rolling over.
