What our research says

Blue

The screen-context trick is what separates this from the dozen other Mac ChatGPT wrappers: the shortcut brings the model to whatever window you are already in rather than making you assemble a prompt somewhere else. The five-dollar bring-your-own-key tier is honest pricing for what is, at that tier, a client. The limits are real though — Mac only, token allowances rather than unlimited use, and a small Swedish company with a Windows build that has been promised rather than shipped.

Pros

  • Screen-context capture invoked from a global option-space shortcut
  • Native macOS app rather than a wrapped web page
  • Bring-your-own-key tier at 5 dollars a month for people who already pay OpenAI
  • Trial runs with no card required
  • Vendor names itself and its country openly

Cons

  • macOS 12.6 or later only; the Windows build is announced but not available
  • Paid tiers meter GPT-4o by token allowance, so heavy use hits the ceiling
  • OpenAI models only, with no Anthropic or Google option
  • No API, no team features and no mobile client

MindMac

A rare thing in this category: you buy it once. For 29 dollars you get a native Mac client that talks to every major provider plus local models through Ollama or LM Studio, and the inline mode means you can query from inside whatever app you are in. What you are not buying is a service — no accounts, no sync guarantees, and after twelve months you either stop getting updates or pay again. The publisher also stays anonymous, which is worth weighing for something that holds your API keys.

Pros

  • Perpetual licence from 29 dollars rather than a monthly fee
  • Supports OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Mistral in one app
  • Local models through Ollama and LM Studio
  • Inline mode for querying from inside other applications
  • Runs on macOS 13 and later, on both Intel and Apple Silicon

Cons

  • Free updates stop after a year unless you pay the discounted renewal
  • You supply and pay for every provider key yourself, so the licence is not the whole cost
  • macOS only; iPhone and iPad are described as future work
  • The publisher names no company, country or legal entity anywhere on the site

Which one fits

Choose Blue if you need

  • Mac users who want a model reading the window they are already looking at
  • People who already pay OpenAI and just want a better front end for 5 dollars a month
  • Anyone who prefers a keyboard shortcut to a browser tab

Choose MindMac if you need

  • Mac users who already hold provider API keys and want one client for all of them
  • People who prefer a one-time purchase to another monthly subscription
  • Anyone running local models through Ollama or LM Studio alongside hosted ones
