What our research says

Blimey

Blimey solves a real problem — text prompts cannot reliably fix camera angle, pose and colour placement — by making you rough out a 3D scene the model then renders. If you have a specific composition in your head, that is a much shorter route than re-rolling prompts. The risks are that it is one developer's side project and that the published changelog stops at v1.16 in March 2024, so buying the unlimited subscription is a bet on continued upkeep.

Pros

  • 3D staging fixes composition, camera angle and pose before generation instead of after
  • Generates new 3D models from an uploaded or generated reference image when the library has no match
  • Depth, pose, style and background controls plus .obj import and saved scenes
  • 30 free credits up front, and a pay-per-image option instead of a forced subscription

Cons

  • Built and maintained by one person, with a personal email as the only support channel
  • Desktop only — no web version, no mobile, no API
  • Scene setup costs time that a prompt-only generator does not
  • No trial of the unlimited tier beyond the 30 starter credits

Midjourney

Midjourney still produces the most immediately attractive images of any generator, and it is still the least programmable. Buy it if you are art-directing by eye; look elsewhere if a machine has to call it.

Pros

  • Default aesthetic quality is still the reason people pay for it
  • Style and character references keep a look consistent across a set
  • Image-to-video arrived natively rather than through a bolted-on partner

Cons

  • No official public API, and unofficial wrappers breach the terms of service
  • GPU-hour metering makes cost per image hard to predict, and video burns roughly 26x a still
  • Images are public by default until you reach the $60 Pro tier
  • No free trial since 2023, so evaluation costs $10

Choose Blimey if you need

  • Artists who need the same character or product across several camera angles
  • Storyboarding and concept work where composition matters more than photorealism
  • People frustrated that prompt wording will not pin down a layout

Choose Midjourney if you need

  • Concept art, mood boards and editorial illustration where look beats control
