What our research says

Beat API

Solves a real integration problem: music video generation normally means stitching a storyboard model, a video model and a compositor yourself, and this collapses that into one async task with a ledger behind it. Editable storyboards mean one ruined shot does not cost a full re-render. What is missing is a rate card - you learn what a job costs after it runs.

Pros

  • A single task endpoint covers storyboarding, rendering, composition and hosted MP4 delivery
  • Storyboards are editable, so individual shots can be swapped or re-rendered
  • One key spans workflow, video, image, effect and realtime WebRTC APIs
  • Charges are reserved on acceptance and refunded on eligible failures, with a usage ledger to audit

Cons

  • No published per-second or per-video rate - pricing is only knowable from the ledger after a run
  • No company name, registered entity or country appears anywhere in the docs
  • The marketing site returns 403 to ordinary fetchers, so independent verification is awkward
  • Audio is capped at 180 seconds on standard and 300 on premium

Runway

One of the few AI video vendors with a full pipeline — generation, editing, upscaling, API — rather than a single model demo, and its film-industry adoption is real. The catch is credit economics: high-resolution generations drain a month's allowance quickly, so the advertised entry price rarely reflects working costs.

Pros

  • Gen-4.5 delivers strong motion consistency and prompt adherence
  • Studio, mobile apps and API cover creation through delivery
  • Max tier exports ProRes and 16-bit HDR for professional finishing
  • Long operating history (since 2018) compared with newer video startups

Cons

  • Credit-metered pricing makes real monthly cost hard to predict
  • Premium models and formats sit behind the more expensive tiers
  • The free plan is effectively a one-time demo

Which one fits

Choose Beat API if you need

  • Developers embedding music video generation into an existing product
  • Teams that need per-shot control without rebuilding a render pipeline
  • Anyone who wants webhook-driven async jobs instead of long-held connections

Choose Runway if you need

  • Filmmakers and studios prototyping shots and VFX before committing budget
  • Marketing and social teams producing short generated clips at volume
  • Developers who want a video-generation API from an established vendor
