What our research says

AskCodi

Only worth a look if you want one bill across several frontier models and prefer token metering to per-seat pricing. On actual coding ability it does not compete with agentic editors that read your whole repository, and most developers get more from a mainstream $20/month seat.

Pros

  • One account and one bill across multiple model vendors
  • OpenAI-compatible endpoint plus API keys, so it can be scripted like any other provider
  • Usage-based pooled tokens suit teams with uneven activity
  • Plugins across VS Code, JetBrains and Sublime rather than a single editor

Cons

  • No pricing published on the marketing site — you have to sign in to see plan costs
  • Positioning has drifted toward being a model gateway, which thins its differentiation
  • No public SOC 2 or enterprise compliance story, and the site names no legal entity or address
  • Competing head-on with assistants that ship inside the IDEs themselves

Tabnine

If your compliance team will not let code leave the building, Tabnine is one of the few assistants that answers that requirement properly — but it has walked away from individual developers entirely, and the catalogs still listing it as freemium are two years stale.

Pros

  • Deployment options run all the way to air-gapped, which almost no competitor matches
  • Context engine connects Perforce as well as the usual Git hosts, which matters in games and hardware
  • Self-hosted models carry no token metering, so heavy use does not scale the bill

Cons

  • No free tier since April 2025 and no individual plan since October 2025
  • Entry price is $39/user/month, roughly four times Copilot Pro
  • Annual billing only, so there is no cheap way to pilot it
  • Cloud model usage is billed on top of the seat fee rather than included

Choose AskCodi if you need

  • Small teams that want pooled token spend instead of a seat per developer
  • Developers who switch between GPT, Claude and Gemini and dislike three subscriptions
  • Generating unit tests and docstrings against existing code
  • Sublime Text and older JetBrains setups poorly served by newer tools

  • Regulated teams that need on-premises or air-gapped inference
  • Organisations with a zero-code-retention requirement in procurement
