What our research says

AskCodi

AskCodi is no longer the in-editor coding assistant it was first listed as: it now sells an autonomous agent service that scopes, builds and maintains apps with your sign-off at each step, plus an OpenAI-compatible model gateway billed from the same token balance. It suits founders and freelancers who want delegated, reviewable delivery with transparent token pricing; developers who want an assistant they steer line by line inside their editor should look at Cursor or GitHub Copilot instead.

Pros

  • Pricing is public and plain: each paid plan returns its full price as tokens at $1.25 per million
  • Free tier of 1 million tokens a month with no card, and work pauses at the cap instead of billing overage
  • Work is gated by a written scope and per-delivery sign-off, with run receipts showing checks passed and spend
  • One balance covers agent runs and gateway calls usable from Cline, Continue, Zed and similar tools

Cons

  • The 2026 pivot means many reviews and tutorials still describe the older coding assistant
  • Token use per agent job is hard to predict before running real work
  • Desktop app is early (version 0.0.86 seen) and has no Linux build yet

OpenRouter

OpenRouter is the practical default for developers who want to try or mix many models without opening an account with every lab, and who value automatic fallback when a provider goes down. High-volume teams already on direct contracts with one or two labs will mostly be paying the platform fee for convenience they do not need.

Pros

  • 500+ models behind one OpenAI-compatible API
  • Automatic fallback across providers and routing by price or latency
  • Data-policy routing to keep prompts away from providers you do not trust
  • Free tier with 25+ free models for experimenting

Cons

  • Platform fee of 5.5 to 8% on top of model prices
  • Free tier is limited to 50 requests per day
  • Adds another party between your app and the model provider

Which one fits

Choose AskCodi if you need

  • Founders without engineers who want a small app or site built and kept running with sign-off on each delivery
  • Freelancers and small studios running client builds in separate workspaces
  • Developers who want one OpenAI-compatible key across several model providers

Choose OpenRouter if you need

  • Developers comparing or switching between many models from one codebase
  • Apps that need provider fallback for uptime
  • Small teams that want one bill instead of a dozen provider accounts
