What our research says

APIXO

APIXO is a multi-model gateway with a consumer-grade creative workspace bolted onto the same catalogue developers reach through one API key, and since the summer it has added Studio subscriptions on top of the prepaid balance. It now names a legal entity, which closes the biggest gap from our earlier look, though a Wyoming registered-agent address and English governing law say little about who actually runs it. Good for trying many image and video models cheaply; less good if you need a vendor you can audit.

Pros

  • Same account covers the web workspace and the API
  • Model coverage spans image, video, audio and text from a dozen providers
  • Prepaid API balance does not expire, and unused balance is refundable within 30 days
  • Per-model rate card is public and shows a market comparison next to its own price

Cons

  • Studio plan credits expire each month and cannot be spent on API, MCP or LLM calls
  • Legal entity is a Wyoming LLC at a registered-agent address, with terms governed by England and Wales law, an odd combination
  • No SLA, status page or support channel beyond email found
  • Savings claims against direct provider pricing are the vendor's own

OpenRouter

OpenRouter is the practical default for developers who want to try or mix many models without opening an account with every lab, and who value automatic fallback when a provider goes down. High-volume teams already on direct contracts with one or two labs will mostly be paying the platform fee for convenience they do not need.

Pros

  • 500+ models behind one OpenAI-compatible API
  • Automatic fallback across providers and routing by price or latency
  • Data-policy routing to keep prompts away from providers you do not trust
  • Free tier with 25+ free models for experimenting

Cons

  • Platform fee of 5.5 to 8% on top of model prices
  • Free tier is limited to 50 requests per day
  • Adds another party between your app and the model provider

Which one fits

Choose APIXO if you need

  • Solo creators wanting to try several image and video models without separate signups
  • Developers who also want a browser UI to preview outputs before scripting them
  • Cost-sensitive projects comparing per-model rates on an open rate card

Choose OpenRouter if you need

  • Developers comparing or switching between many models from one codebase
  • Apps that need provider fallback for uptime
  • Small teams that want one bill instead of a dozen provider accounts
