What our research says

AI2SQL

Useful for analysts and product people who read SQL but do not write it fluently, especially against dialects they touch once a quarter. If your team already pays for a coding assistant or a BI tool with a natural-language layer, this is a duplicate line item.

Pros

  • Ten dialects including Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift and MongoDB
  • Read-only enforcement at the gateway rather than trusting the model
  • Desktop connector reaches localhost and private-network databases
  • MCP endpoint makes it callable from agent tooling

Cons

  • Entry plan caps you at 100 queries and 10 tables a month
  • Advertised trial length differs between the homepage and the pricing page
  • No free tier, and the trial requires a card
  • Company ownership and location are not disclosed anywhere on the site

AskYourDatabase

Wide database coverage and the split between an internal desktop app and an embeddable customer-facing chatbot make it more of a product line than a toy. Pricing is the friction: $49/month for the desktop app is steep next to copilots bundled into existing BI stacks, and the perpetual 'price changes soon' promo framing deserves skepticism.

Pros

  • Connects to eight mainstream SQL and NoSQL engines
  • Desktop and embedded-chatbot form factors from one vendor
  • Free small-model quota to trial without a card
  • On-premise option for regulated environments

Cons

  • No public API documentation
  • Vendor identity (legal name, country) is not disclosed on the site
  • Chatbot plans meter questions per month, which can pinch at scale

Which one fits

Choose AI2SQL if you need

  • Non-engineers pulling ad-hoc numbers from a warehouse
  • Translating a query between dialects such as Postgres and BigQuery
  • Read-only exploration where the gateway's write-blocking is a feature

Choose AskYourDatabase if you need

  • Ops and support staff who need ad-hoc answers from production databases
  • SaaS teams embedding a data chatbot into their own product
  • Companies that require on-premise deployment for data access
