What our research says

1UI

1UI is no longer just a screenshot-to-code tool: it is now a local-first design canvas that lets an AI chat, or an outside agent through MCP, build and edit layouts that export straight to code. At $9 a month or $99 lifetime with your own model key it is cheap next to Figma plus AI add-ons, but it is a one-developer product competing with a mature editor, so teams should test file compatibility and collaboration before moving work over.

Pros

  • Built-in MCP server lets coding agents read and edit the canvas
  • Bring-your-own-key AI means prompts go to your provider, not through 1UI
  • Local-first files and peer-to-peer collaboration with no document server
  • Lifetime licence at $99 alongside monthly and annual plans

Cons

  • Built and run by one individual developer, with no named company
  • AI features need your own provider API key and its separate bill
  • The earlier hosted API and per-screen credit plans are no longer on the site

Framer

Framer is the builder to pick when the person shipping the site thinks in a design canvas and the site is a marketing surface — landing pages, portfolios, launch sites — rather than an application. Its AI is a layout and copy accelerator inside that canvas, not a site-in-a-click generator, and the honest cost is the seats: the $10 Basic headline becomes $30 the moment a second person needs edit rights.

Pros

  • Design canvas with real responsive breakpoints rather than fixed templates
  • Hosting, CMS, localisation and custom domain are included on paid site plans
  • AI credits come with every plan, including 500 to try on Free
  • Published pricing with no quote gate below Enterprise

Cons

  • Editor seats cost $20 each on top of the site plan
  • AI generation is metered in credits that need topping up on heavier use
  • CMS item and page caps (1,000 / 2,500 items) are tight for larger content sites
  • The pricing page shows one figure per plan under a yearly toggle, so the month-to-month price is not obvious

Which one fits

Choose 1UI if you need

  • Developers using Claude Code or Cursor who want agents to edit designs directly
  • Solo designers who want design, prototyping and code export in one cheap tool
  • People who want design files kept on their own device

Choose Framer if you need

  • Designers shipping marketing sites and landing pages without a developer
  • Startups that want hosting, CMS, localisation and a custom domain under one subscription
  • Teams prototyping in a canvas who want the prototype to become the live site
