1UI has grown from a screenshot-to-code generator into a full design canvas positioned against Figma. You chat with the canvas to generate, restyle and refactor layouts using your own AI provider key, build prototypes with a Motion tab, triggers and screen-to-screen transitions, and export any frame as framework-ready code or a whole prototype as a web page or React component. A built-in MCP server lets Claude Code, Cursor and other agents read and edit the canvas directly. Files stay on your device by default, real-time collaboration runs peer-to-peer over WebRTC, and it runs in the browser or as a Tauri desktop app for Mac and Windows. It is built by an individual developer, Jessin Sam.

Pros & cons of 1UI
1UI is no longer just a screenshot-to-code tool: it is now a local-first design canvas that lets an AI chat, or an outside agent through MCP, build and edit layouts that export straight to code. At $9 a month or $99 lifetime with your own model key it is cheap next to Figma plus AI add-ons, but it is a one-developer product competing with a mature editor, so teams should test file compatibility and collaboration before moving work over.
