Overview

About Xpolyglot

Xpolyglot is a macOS app from FiveSheep OU, a small Estonian studio, aimed squarely at iOS developers. It imports an Xcode project, translates the string catalog, and keeps App Store Connect descriptions, keywords and release notes in sync across every language you ship in. Delta detection means only changed strings get sent for translation, which is what keeps the running cost low. Metadata is length-checked against App Store limits before it goes out. The app is notarised by Apple and sold as a $9.99 one-time purchase with lifetime updates; translation itself runs on your own OpenAI API key and is billed by OpenAI.

Editorial verdict

Pros & cons of Xpolyglot

high confidence

Unusually honest pricing for this category: $9.99 once, then you pay OpenAI directly for what you actually translate. Delta updates are the feature that matters, because re-translating an unchanged catalog on every release is where localisation budgets go. It only helps if you are shipping Apple platforms from a Mac, and you are accepting machine translation without a reviewer in the loop.

Pros

  • One-time $9.99 purchase with lifetime updates, no subscription
  • Delta detection only re-translates strings that changed
  • Handles App Store Connect descriptions, keywords and What's New alongside the catalog
  • Length-checks metadata against App Store field limits
  • Notarised by Apple

Cons

  • Requires you to obtain and pay for your own OpenAI API key
  • macOS and Xcode only
  • Output is raw machine translation with no review workflow or glossary control
  • Site copyright still reads 2024, so update cadence is unclear

Best for

  • indie iOS developers shipping in many locales
  • keeping App Store keywords and release notes current
  • projects on Xcode string catalogs (.xcstrings)

Not for

  • Android or web localisation
  • apps where a human reviewer must sign off each locale

Watch out: The $9.99 does not include translation - OpenAI bills your key separately for every run.
