Enterprise HCM, payroll and financial management suite with AI agents running on the same tenant data
Workday is a cloud suite for large organisations covering human capital management, payroll, workforce management, talent, financial management, spend, planning and contract lifecycle management. Its AI layer sits on the same tenant records rather than a separate copy: agents for recruiting, payroll audit, contract review and financial close, an analytics data cloud, and the Extend toolkit for building custom applications against Workday data. Packaged industry configurations exist for healthcare, public sector and education, and Workday GO is the lighter option aimed at midsize firms. The company was founded in 2005 by Aneel Bhusri and Dave Duffield, is headquartered in Pleasanton, California, and reports roughly 11,500 customers and 20,000 employees.
No list price exists. Workday sells annual subscriptions negotiated per customer on headcount and module mix, and implementation is a separate multi-month project usually run by a certified partner. Workday GO is the packaged entry point for midsize buyers, still quoted through sales.
Use tool ↗The default answer when a large organisation wants HR, payroll, finance and planning on one system of record, and the AI work is genuinely built on that record rather than bolted alongside it. It is also a long, expensive procurement: no public price, a partner-led implementation measured in months, and AI capabilities gated behind whichever modules you licensed.
Watch out: The AI agents are packaged into specific module licences, so what the marketing shows is not necessarily included in a contract you already signed.
