Use tool ↗About TwelveLabs
TwelveLabs sells video understanding through an API and a hosted platform built on its own models: Marengo embeds video, audio, images and text for cross-modal search, and Pegasus reasons over long footage to produce summaries, timestamped segments and answers. Jockey, an agent that answers questions across a whole media library, sits on top and can also be used from inside Claude and ChatGPT. Media, sports, advertising and security teams use it to make large archives searchable in plain language and to speed up compliance review and highlight logging. Plans bundle storage and processing with a monthly workload allowance, from a free tier up to custom enterprise contracts.

Pros & cons of TwelveLabs
Still the most direct way to add real video search and Q&A to a product without training multimodal models yourself. Pricing has moved from per-minute metering to plans that bundle storage with a monthly workload allowance, which makes a prototype's cost predictable, but a large archive outgrows Plus quickly and only Pro can buy overage.
Pros
- Purpose-built video models rather than frame-sampled image models
- A free plan and self-serve $29 and $99 tiers make prototype costs predictable
- Re-indexing for new model releases is included in the monthly fee
- SDKs and a playground support evaluation before committing
- Analyze handles continuous reasoning over long footage
Cons
- Storage and workload allowances are separate, and Free and Plus stop at their caps with no overage
- It is infrastructure, not a turnkey app - integration takes engineering
- Large archives push quickly into Pro overage or an enterprise contract
Best for
- Developers building search over large video archives
- Media and sports teams automating highlights and logging
- Products that need video Q&A or summarization via API
Not for
- End users wanting a finished consumer app rather than APIs
- Small clip libraries where manual tagging is cheaper
Watch out: Existing accounts move to the new plans automatically on 4 January 2027; Marengo Search, Analyze, Segment and Embed all draw on the workload allowance while storage is capped separately, so check both limits against your archive before picking a tier.
