What our research says

Runway

One of the few AI video vendors with a full pipeline — generation, editing, upscaling, API — rather than a single model demo, and its film-industry adoption is real. The catch is credit economics: high-resolution generations drain a month's allowance quickly, so the advertised entry price rarely reflects working costs.

Pros

  • Gen-4.5 delivers strong motion consistency and prompt adherence
  • Studio, mobile apps and API cover creation through delivery
  • Max tier exports ProRes and 16-bit HDR for professional finishing
  • Long operating history (since 2018) compared with newer video startups

Cons

  • Credit-metered pricing makes real monthly cost hard to predict
  • Premium models and formats sit behind the more expensive tiers
  • The free plan is effectively a one-time demo

TheFluxTrain

The persistent scene model is the interesting part: re-directing a shot after notes doesn't mean starting from a blank prompt, which is unusual next to tools that regenerate from scratch every time. The tradeoff is a credit system where model choice and resolution both change the real cost per video, so it takes some trial and error to know what a finished short will actually cost.

Pros

  • persistent scene model for re-directing shots without starting over
  • timeline editor built alongside the generator
  • custom model training available on paid tiers
  • one-time 200-credit free allotment to test the workflow

Cons

  • credit cost per generation varies by model and resolution, making budgeting harder
  • starter plan's 5,000 monthly credits is thin for a full short film
  • newer platform without the track record of larger video generators
