Postiz vs Zernio

Two fact sheets from our own research, side by side — pricing, platforms, API access and status re-checked by us rather than quoted from the vendors. Postiz starts at $29, Zernio at $6. Both have a free tier. Both ship a public API.

What our research says

Postiz

The rare scheduler where the escape hatch is real: same code, AGPL licence, Docker compose, and the maintainer says the hosted build has no extra features. If the price rises or the project stalls you move to your own server. The cost is that you are relying on one maintainer, and the hosted entry plan at $29 is not cheap for five channels.

Pros

  • AGPL-3.0 source on GitHub with Docker self-hosting, ~35k stars
  • Maintainer states hosted and self-hosted builds are functionally identical
  • 30+ networks including Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads, Discord and Warpcast
  • OAuth2, SDK, REST API and MCP for programmatic posting
  • n8n, Make.com and Zapier integrations

Cons

  • Hosted Standard is $29/month for only 5 channels and 400 posts
  • Effectively a one-maintainer project, so roadmap and support depend on one person
  • No company entity or country published
  • AGPL is a real constraint if you want to embed it in a closed product

Zernio

Zernio is infrastructure rather than an end-user tool: it gives developers and AI agents one API and MCP server instead of integrating 16 separate social platform APIs individually. That is valuable if you are building a product on top of social publishing, but it is the wrong pick for someone who just wants a scheduling dashboard to click around in.

Pros

  • Single API covers 16 platforms instead of integrating each network separately
  • Ships a hosted MCP server so AI agents can call posting and analytics functions as tools
  • First two connected accounts are free, useful for testing before committing

Cons

  • Requires development work to integrate; there is no ready-made dashboard for non-developers
  • Per-account pricing at scale needs modeling before it's clear what a large account base will cost
  • No public information on the company or team behind it

Which one fits

Choose Postiz if you need

  • Agencies and creators who want an exit from Buffer-style lock-in
  • Developers wiring posting into agents over MCP or the REST API
  • Teams comfortable running Docker to avoid a subscription

Choose Zernio if you need

  • Developers building a product that needs to publish or read social data programmatically
  • Teams wiring AI agents to post or respond on social platforms via MCP
