Use tool ↗About Observe Earth
Observe Earth is a live world map of news and events, color-coded by category: earthquakes, conflicts, disasters, disease outbreaks, cyber incidents, transport delays and fuel price moves, drawing on sources such as USGS and GDACS alongside news coverage. A feed rolls up recent events, and users can follow keywords to get a daily card with an AI-written summary and links to coverage from several publishers. The map and the iOS and Android apps are free to use. A separate developer API sells the same structured, country-tagged event records, with a free evaluation tier and paid production plans.

Pros & cons of Observe Earth
Observe Earth's map-first approach to world news, plotting disasters and conflict events geographically and rolling up followed keywords into daily AI summaries, is a genuinely different way to scan global events than a text-based news app. The consumer map stays free, paid for by a developer API that starts at $399 a month, so the business model is now visible even if the company behind it is not.
Pros
- Free map and feed with mobile apps on both Android and iOS
- Pulls from primary data sources like USGS and GDACS, not just aggregated headlines
- Keyword following produces a daily digest card instead of a raw stream
- Structured event API with a free evaluation tier for developers
Cons
- No company name disclosed, only a solo founder credit on the about page
- AI-written one-sentence summaries may oversimplify complex, ongoing stories
- Production API access jumps straight from free to $399 a month
Best for
- People who want a geographic, map-based view of breaking global events
- Users who follow a few specific keywords or regions rather than all news
- Anyone who wants disaster and conflict data pulled from primary sources like USGS and GDACS
Not for
- Users who prefer a traditional text-based news feed over a map interface
- Anyone needing in-depth reporting rather than short AI-written summaries
Watch out: The free API evaluation tier is 24 hours delayed, English-only and non-commercial, so it cannot stand in for the $399 Analyst plan in a live product.
