Menu bar and global-hotkey access to ChatGPT on macOS, using the web session or your own OpenAI key.
MacGPT is a small macOS utility from indie developer Good Snooze (Jordi Bruin) that keeps ChatGPT one keystroke away: a menu bar icon, a global hotkey popup, an inline mode that answers inside any text field, and a conversation mode with voice. It can either wrap the ChatGPT web session or talk to the OpenAI API with your own key, so there is no subscription of its own. A companion iOS app, GeePeeTee, is free. Distribution is through Gumroad, where the product now carries the MenuGPT name and a zero price, and the site's copyright still reads 2023 — this is a hobby utility, not a maintained platform.
Listed on Gumroad at a price of 0, i.e. free or name-your-price. Running it against the OpenAI API means paying OpenAI directly for tokens. The GeePeeTee iOS companion is free.
