Overview

About Evoto

Evoto is a batch photo editor for working photographers. It culls a shoot, retouches each face separately with skin, blemish and body controls, matches colour across a set, replaces or adjusts backgrounds, edits clothing and accessories, and exports the lot in one pass. Evoto Instant handles tethered shooting and there is a video product alongside. It runs on macOS, Windows, iPad, mobile and in a browser, with device counts tied to the plan. Billing is credits, roughly one per exported photo, sold as annual subscriptions with rollover or as pay-as-you-go packs valid two years. The operator is Truesight Technology Inc. of Wilmington, Delaware; the product holds ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 Type II.

Editorial verdict

Pros & cons of Evoto

medium confidence

For a wedding or event photographer, Evoto's argument is arithmetic: 800 credits a year for about the price of two months of Lightroom, with per-face retouching applied across a batch. Credits roll over while you stay subscribed, which softens the annual commitment. What you give up is predictability, since every exported image costs a credit and colour or skin work still needs checking on skin tones the model handles badly.

Pros

  • Per-face retouching applied across a whole batch, not one image at a time
  • Culling, colour matching, background and clothing edits in one pass
  • Credits roll over between subscription years, up to five times the new plan
  • Runs on macOS, Windows, iPad, mobile and browser, with tethered shooting in Evoto Instant
  • ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certified, unusual for a photo editor

Cons

  • Every export costs a credit, so re-exports cost again
  • Annual plans only; there is no monthly subscription
  • Device count is capped per tier, from 2 devices on Starter to 6 on Standard Plus
  • No refunds for mid-year cancellation, only use of remaining credits

Best for

  • Wedding and event photographers with hundreds of frames per job
  • Portrait studios that retouch faces at volume
  • Anyone who wants culling, retouching and grading in one desktop app

Not for

  • Occasional shooters who export a handful of images a year
  • Retouchers who need pixel-level manual control over every frame

Watch out: Pay-as-you-go credits expire after two years and subscription rollover only lasts while you keep renewing; letting the plan lapse forfeits the balance after a 30-day grace period.
