Use tool ↗About Dyad
Dyad is a desktop application for macOS and Windows that works like a hosted vibe-coding builder, but keeps the project files on your disk. You describe an app, pick a model from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Ollama or LM Studio, and Dyad generates and edits a standard Next.js codebase you can open in VS Code. It connects to Supabase or Neon for databases and auth, deploys through GitHub and Vercel, and supports MCP servers. The paid Pro plan adds a stronger agent mode and bundled model credits; the app itself is open source.

Pros & cons of Dyad
Dyad is the choice for people who like the prompt-to-app workflow of hosted builders but want the code on their own disk and the freedom to bring any model. The free tier is real, though the stronger agent features and bundled model access sit behind the $20 Pro plan.
Pros
- Free and open source, with projects stored locally
- Works with many model providers, including offline local models
- Output is a standard Next.js project with no platform lock-in
- One-click Supabase or Neon, GitHub and Vercel connections
Cons
- Desktop-only, with downloads for macOS and Windows
- Free basic agent is limited to 20 messages a day
- You manage and pay for your own model API keys unless you buy Pro credits
Best for
- Hobbyists and students who want a free app builder with their own API keys
- Developers who want generated code in a normal repo they can keep editing
- Privacy-minded users who want to run local models through Ollama or LM Studio
Not for
- People who want a browser-based builder with hosting built in
- Anyone who expects the free tier to include the full agent mode with automatic testing
Watch out: The Pro plan's credits are consumed by usage, and some routes add an orchestration fee of 1.5 credits per million tokens, so heavy sessions can drain the 200 monthly credits. The privacy policy describes pseudonymous usage telemetry, despite the site's local-first pitch.
