What our research says

Captions

Captions is the strongest of the phone-first short-video editors, and the caption styling plus eye-contact correction are the two features people actually keep it for. The AI edit pass genuinely removes an hour of manual cutting from a weekly-video habit. The pricing is the problem: it is credit-metered, the published table is labelled iOS-only, and the entry tier's 500 credits disappear fast once you use the generative features it exists to sell.

Pros

  • Automatic scene cutting, caption burn-in, b-roll insertion and music in one pass over raw footage
  • Over 100 caption styles and support for 100+ languages, including dubbing
  • Eye-contact correction handles the single most obvious tell in scripted creator video
  • Runs on iOS, Android, web and desktop with the same account
  • Free tier still gives trimming, transitions and library media, so the app is usable before paying

Cons

  • Everything generative is credit-metered, so the monthly price understates real cost at volume
  • The pricing page states it reflects iOS plans only, which leaves web and Android buyers guessing
  • Credit rollover is capped at 3x the monthly allowance, so banking credits for a big project does not work

VlogMe

VlogMe's Director, which plans and previews a whole multi-scene video for free before you spend a credit, is the useful part: you see the script, scenes and voices before paying for a render. Everything after that is metered from one credit balance, and at about 150 credits for a 30-second avatar the $9 plan covers only a couple of minutes of finished video. The live-avatar product is now an enterprise setup sold through sales.

Pros

  • Planning a whole video in Director, with previews of scenes, voice and music, costs nothing
  • Same models, formats and quality on every plan; the tiers differ only in credits
  • One credit balance across video, image, voice, dubbing and news tools, with the price shown before each job
  • REST API and MCP access for programmatic use
  • States uploads stay private and are never used to train its models

Cons

  • No free credits on sign-up, so rendering anything requires paying first
  • A 30-second talking avatar costs 150 credits, so the 600-credit Starter plan yields about two minutes
  • Subscription credits expire at the end of each period; only pack credits carry over

Choose Captions if you need

  • Creators shooting talking-head shorts on a phone and publishing several a week

  • Producing the same clip in several languages with dubbing and translated captions

Choose VlogMe if you need

  • Marketing and sales teams producing short product or tutorial videos with an AI director planning scenes
  • Creators who want to check a script and scene plan before paying to render
  • Teams wanting API or MCP access to integrate video generation into another workflow
