What our research says

Apify

The Actor marketplace is the draw: for most popular sites someone has already built and maintains the scraper, and agent-facing interfaces (API, MCP) are first-class. Costs need watching, since compute units plus per-Actor fees stack on top of the subscription and are hard to predict before you run at volume.

Pros

  • Huge catalog of maintained scrapers for common targets
  • Real free tier with $5 of usage and no card required
  • SDKs, CLI, proxies and scheduling in one platform
  • Published discounts for startups, universities and nonprofits

Cons

  • Two-layer pricing (subscription plus usage plus Actor fees) complicates forecasting
  • Marketplace Actor quality varies by author
  • Large-scale scraping raises site-terms and legal questions the platform leaves to you

Xpoz

This exists because X's own API pricing pushed most small builders off the platform, and because Instagram and TikTok never had a usable public read API at all. Getting all four behind one credit balance, callable straight from an MCP client, is a genuine convenience for research and monitoring work. The dependency is the whole risk: you are buying access to somebody else's scraped index, and platform enforcement, not your budget, decides how long it keeps working.

Pros

  • Four networks — X, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit — behind one credential and one credit balance
  • Hosted MCP server means Claude, ChatGPT and similar clients connect with no glue code
  • TypeScript and Python SDKs plus a CLI are published on npm and PyPI
  • Historical posts and profile data, not just recent activity
  • Overage is priced openly per thousand credits rather than throttling you

Cons

  • Homepage and pricing page disagree on plan prices and credit allowances
  • No company jurisdiction, entity name or founding year is disclosed
  • The 3-billion-post index figure is the vendor's own with no method described
  • Reselling scraped platform data carries terms-of-service risk the site does not address

Which one fits

Choose Apify if you need

  • Teams that would rather rent a maintained scraper than babysit their own
  • AI builders feeding agents live web data through the API or MCP server
  • Developers monetizing crawlers without running infrastructure

Choose Xpoz if you need

  • Agents and assistants that need social data without per-platform credentials
  • Brand monitoring and competitor tracking prototypes that would otherwise need four integrations
  • Researchers who need historical posts rather than only a live firehose
