Use tool ↗About Anara
Anara, which launched as Unriddle in 2023 and took its current name in 2025, is a research assistant built for academic and scientific work rather than general chat. You keep a persistent library by uploading papers and data or syncing Zotero and Mendeley, with Google Drive, OneDrive and other connectors on higher plans, and it searches PubMed, arXiv, trial registries and other science databases on top of that. Answers come back with citations tied to the retrieved passage, so each claim traces to a document you can open, and there is a writing editor alongside. Usage is metered: the free plan refreshes daily, and paid plans from $8 a month billed yearly raise the allowance, unlock model choice and add credits. Anara Labs, Inc. runs it from San Francisco.

Pros & cons of Anara
What Anara gets right is traceability: answers are grounded in retrieved passages with the citation attached, which is the whole game for anyone who has to defend a claim. Connecting an existing Zotero or Mendeley library means you are not rebuilding your corpus from scratch. The weak spot is metered usage: the free tier is small enough that a serious literature review reaches a paid plan quickly, and model choice only starts on Pro.
Pros
- Inline citations point at the specific retrieved passage, not just the document
- Syncs Zotero and Mendeley libraries, with more connectors on Pro
- Searches PubMed, arXiv and trial registries alongside your own library
- Free tier plus published per-seat prices from $8 a month billed yearly
Cons
- Usage is metered weekly on paid plans, and stronger models use the allowance faster
- The free allowance resets daily but is small for a serious literature review
- No public API for automating the pipeline
- Model choice, OCR and the Drive and OneDrive connectors sit on Pro, not Plus
Best for
- Literature reviews where every claim must trace to a source
- Researchers with an existing Zotero or Mendeley library
- Students and teams working across large PDF collections
Not for
- General-purpose chat or non-academic writing
- Anyone needing an API to script the workflow
Watch out: The Plus tier keeps you on standard models and upload limits; most of the features people shop for sit on Pro.
