What our research says

Altered

Altered is one of the few voice tools built around editing a performance you already recorded rather than generating one from scratch, and the licence attached to each tier is spelled out plainly. The catch is the two-axis meter: you can run out of morphing minutes or tokens independently, and the commercial licence only starts at the EUR 87 tier.

Pros

  • Speech-to-speech morphing keeps the original delivery instead of re-reading a script
  • Free tier plus a card-free week-long Creator trial
  • Desktop apps for Windows and Mac in addition to the browser studio
  • Token consumption rates per provider are published on the pricing page

Cons

  • API access, multi-seat and custom voice models are Enterprise-only
  • Two separate meters (minutes and tokens) make cost harder to forecast
  • Commercial licensing requires the Professional tier; lower tiers carry attribution or creator terms

Respeecher

The serious end of voice cloning: it takes an actor's performance and re-voices it, so the emotion and timing come from a human rather than from a prompt. That is why studios use it and why it is not the cheapest option. The hourly API price is unusually clear for this market, but bespoke cloning still runs through a sales conversation.

Pros

  • Speech-to-speech conversion preserves timing and emotional intent, not just timbre
  • 40-plus pre-licensed marketplace voices with a Pro Tools plugin for editors
  • Real-time TTS API at a flat $2 per hour with no subscription cap
  • Eight years of production track record including an Emmy and WEF recognition

Cons

  • Custom cloning is quote-only, so budgeting requires a sales call
  • Speech-to-speech means you need a performed source take, not just text
  • Ukraine-based operations carry wartime continuity risk worth asking about

Which one fits

Choose Altered if you need

  • Post-production teams replacing or repairing voices in existing recordings

Choose Respeecher if you need

  • Recreating a specific voice with the original actor's or estate's consent
  • Voice agents that need a per-hour rate rather than a seat licence
