What our research says

AlpacaBag

AlpacaBag's free tier already produces a full day-by-day plan with a map and PDF, and the token-based Premium model is cheap per route if the ruble pricing works for you. The catch is that everything, from the interface to the payment currency, is oriented toward a Russian and CIS audience, which limits how well it serves users elsewhere.

Pros

  • Free tier already includes a full itinerary, map, and PDF export
  • Premium routing model is inexpensive per use via token packs
  • Supports both Google Maps and Yandex Maps
  • Android app available through RuStore in addition to the web app

Cons

  • Pricing and primary audience are oriented around Russia, with rubles as the currency
  • No iOS app found, only Android and web
  • Token system adds a layer of complexity versus a flat subscription

Mindtrip

Mindtrip is the most complete of the chat trip planners because the chat, the itinerary and the map are the same object rather than three panes that drift apart. Booking inside the app is what makes it free, and also what shapes the recommendations. Group editing and Google Maps import remove the two chores that usually push people back into a shared doc.

Pros

  • Itinerary, map and chat stay synchronised in one view
  • Imports saved places from Google Maps and can start a trip from a photo
  • Books flights, hotels, restaurants and experiences without leaving the app
  • Free to plan with no subscription gate

Cons

  • Revenue comes from bookings, so recommendations are not neutral
  • No Android app listed
  • Car rentals and tours are still marked as coming soon
