A cloud account can be created for free and the platform can be self-hosted at no charge. The pricing page is a client-rendered app that could not be read here, and third-party listings of older plans do not match its current positioning, so no paid price is recorded; check the vendor page before budgeting.
Use tool βAbout TraceRoot
TraceRoot records each model call, tool call and response in an AI application, with inputs, outputs, latency and cost. Detectors flag production runs that miss a quality bar, recurring patterns surface as signals, and offline evals check whether a change actually helped. A command-line interface lets a coding agent read and edit detectors, datasets, evals and dashboards, so the loop from failure to verified fix can run mostly by itself. It is available as a hosted cloud or self-hosted with Docker Compose, with Python and TypeScript SDKs; code outside its enterprise folders is Apache-2.0. The company is a small Y Combinator Summer 2025 startup in San Francisco.

Pros & cons of TraceRoot
TraceRoot is for teams that want tracing plus a feedback loop wired to their coding agent, and that like being able to self-host. It is young, with a four-person team, and has repositioned from AI-assisted debugging to an improvement layer, so expect change. Pick a more established observability product if you need a long track record.
Pros
- Open source with a documented self-hosting path using Docker Compose
- Python and TypeScript SDKs plus an agent-oriented CLI
- Links tracing, detection, signals and evals into one loop
- Code outside the enterprise folders is Apache-2.0
Cons
- Very young company with a small team
- Positioning has shifted from bug-fixing agents to an improvement layer
- Pricing was not readable on the vendor page at review time
Best for
- Teams running agents in production who want traces, detectors and evals in one open-source tool
- Developers who want their coding agent to inspect traces and edit evals through a CLI
Not for
- Teams that need a long-established vendor with published enterprise references
- Anyone who needs a fixed, published price list before trying a tool
Watch out: Directories named ee in the repository fall under a separate enterprise licence, so check which features you are using before assuming the whole self-hosted stack is Apache-2.0.
