Use tool ↗About Tavily
Tavily is an API that gives AI agents real-time access to the web. Its endpoints cover search (ranked results with relevant chunks and an optional answer), extract (clean content from given URLs), crawl and map (content and URL discovery across a whole site) and research (an agent that runs multi-step web research). Requests pass through filters that block PII leakage, prompt injection and malicious sources. Developers call it from Python or JavaScript SDKs or through integrations with agent frameworks. Nebius, the AI cloud company, announced its purchase of Tavily in February 2026; Tavily still operates under its own brand.

Pros & cons of Tavily
Tavily is a sensible default for developers who need agents to search and read the live web without building scraping and ranking themselves. Teams with very high query volume, or that need full raw SERP data and control over sources, should price it against running their own search stack.
Pros
- Search, extract, crawl, map and research behind one API key
- Results come chunked and cleaned for model context
- 1,000 free credits a month without a card
- Built-in PII and prompt-injection filtering
Cons
- Advanced requests consume more credits, which makes costs harder to predict
- Requests stop outright when monthly credits run out on the free tier
- Now owned by Nebius, so roadmap and terms may shift with the parent
Best for
- Developers grounding LLM agents in fresh web results
- RAG pipelines that need clean extracted page content
- Prototypes that need web access on a free tier
Not for
- SEO teams that need raw Google SERP data
- High-volume workloads where per-credit costs dominate
Watch out: Monthly credits reset on the 1st of every month regardless of your billing date and do not carry over, and advanced search depth or crawls use several credits per call.
