How we collect these records

Editorial verdict

Pros & cons of Suno

high confidence

The most complete text-to-song product: full vocals, editable stems and a studio layer most competitors lack. The catches are legal and contractual - commercial rights attach only to songs made while subscribed, new download caps limit even paid exports, and the company has faced major-label litigation over training data.

Pros

Full songs with convincing vocals from one prompt
Stem separation and the multitrack Studio on paid tiers
Cheap entry at $8/month with clear credit math
Free tier refreshes 50 credits daily for evaluation

Cons

Monthly download caps arrive for all tiers in September 2026
Commercial rights cover only songs created while subscribed
Ongoing label lawsuits leave long-term licensing questions open

Best for

Creators needing quick background songs with vocals for videos and podcasts
Songwriters sketching ideas and iterating on style prompts
Hobbyists exploring genres without any production skills

Not for

Broadcast or client work that demands indemnified, sample-cleared audio
Producers wanting DAW-level control over every element

Watch out: From 2026-09-03 the free tier loses song downloads entirely and paid tiers cap monthly downloads (20 on Pro, 60 on Premier) - a meaningful change if your workflow exports in bulk.
