NVIDIA NIM
NIM is the shortest route to running a current open model at good throughput on NVIDIA hardware, with a standard API in front. It fits teams that already own or rent NVIDIA GPUs and want supported, self-hosted inference. It is tied to NVIDIA GPUs and, for production, to an enterprise license, so it is a poor fit for CPU-only or hardware-agnostic setups.
Pros
- Single-command deployment, with the engine chosen for the model and GPU
- Standard APIs, including the OpenAI specification for language models, ease app integration
- Runs on RTX workstations, data centers and clouds, or on partner-hosted dedicated endpoints
- Free tier for Developer Program members covers evaluation on up to 16 GPUs
Cons
- Only runs on NVIDIA GPUs
- Production support depends on a paid AI Enterprise subscription with no list price on the NIM page
- Gives you a vendor-specific serving stack rather than an open-source one such as vLLM on its own
