What our research says

Mubert

Best treated as a licensing-safe background music tap for video and app builders, not as a songwriting tool. If you want vocals or a track that stands on its own, this is the wrong product.

Pros

  • Every download carries a licence certificate tied to your plan, which is the main reason to pay
  • A real, documented developer API rather than a bolt-on
  • Cheapest commercial tier sits well below most AI music rivals

Cons

  • Output is loop-driven instrumental; arrangements get repetitive on longer cuts
  • No vocals, and control over structure is coarse compared with prompt-to-song rivals
  • API pricing is not published; you have to talk to sales

Soundful

You are buying the licence more than the music. The mapping from price tier to usage rights is clearer here than at most rivals, which matters if you ship client work; if you want a specific piece of music, prompt-driven generators get closer.

Pros

  • Licence terms are stated explicitly at each price point, including exclusivity on the artist tier
  • Stem and MIDI packs on higher tiers make output usable inside a DAW
  • Track generation is unlimited even on free — only downloads are metered
  • Direct SoundCloud distribution is bundled into the Pro tier

Cons

  • Free plan allows a single MP3 per month, which functions as a demo rather than a plan
  • Artist-tier exclusivity disappears the moment you stop paying unless you buy copyright separately
  • No text prompting; you pick a template and adjust parameters
  • No API for programmatic generation

Which one fits

Choose Mubert if you need

  • YouTube and podcast beds where the music must not trigger a claim
  • Game and app developers who need generated audio via API
  • Agencies producing lots of short ad cuts on a fixed budget

Choose Soundful if you need

  • YouTubers and podcasters who need safe background beds at volume
  • Agencies producing client video where licence provenance gets audited
  • Producers who want stems and MIDI to build on rather than a finished mix
