What our research says

D-ID

D-ID is the cheapest serious way to get a photo talking, and its real-time Agents and API are what keep it relevant against HeyGen and Synthesia, which make more polished presenter videos but are built around studio avatars rather than a face you supply. Pick it for interactive avatars, API work or budget talking-head clips; pick a rival if you want a lifelike full-body presenter and are willing to pay for one.

Pros

  • Entry price of $5.90 a month, with API and Agents reachable from the same account and balance
  • Real-time conversational Agents and streaming video, not only offline rendering
  • Video Translate into 30-plus languages and personal avatars from uploaded footage on higher tiers
  • Eight-year-old vendor with named founders and a disclosed legal entity, unusual in this category

Cons

  • Trial and Lite output is watermarked, and the Trial watermark covers the full screen
  • Minutes renew monthly, do not accumulate, and video length is rounded up to 15-second blocks
  • Prices are injected by a script with A/B variants, so two visitors can see different Lite prices
  • Free accounts inactive for six months have their data deleted

Trulience

Trulience targets developers embedding an avatar character into their own product rather than end users wanting a one-off video, and the SDK/iframe embed plus bring-your-own-LLM approach fits that use case. It is a UK-registered company with a real address, which is reassuring, but pricing is entirely opaque until a call is booked.

Pros

  • 3D avatar characters (human, animal, cartoon) rather than just 2D talking-head video
  • SDK and iframe embedding for web and mobile apps
  • Automatic language/accent detection across many voices
  • Real UK company address and phone number listed, not just a contact form

Cons

  • No published pricing at all — every plan requires a consultation
  • Requires connecting your own STT/TTS/LLM stack rather than working out of the box
  • Aimed at developers, not a simple point-and-generate tool for non-technical users

Which one fits

Choose D-ID if you need

  • Developers adding a speaking avatar to an app or kiosk through the API or streaming Agents
  • Marketing and L&D teams producing short presenter clips from a photo at a few dollars a month
  • Localising an existing talking-head video into 30-plus languages with lip-synced voice

Choose Trulience if you need

  • developers embedding a talking 3D avatar into an existing app via SDK
  • teams that want to plug their own LLM/RAG stack behind an avatar face
  • products needing multilingual voice with automatic accent detection
