What our research says

ClickUp

ClickUp fits teams that want to consolidate tasks, docs, chat and reporting into one tool and are willing to spend time configuring it; the bundled AI credits make Brain usable without a separate subscription. Small teams that just need a simple board, or anyone sensitive to dense interfaces, will find it heavier than it needs to be.

Pros

  • Very broad feature set covering tasks, docs, chat, whiteboards, goals and time tracking
  • Generous free plan with unlimited members and tasks
  • AI credits are included in every paid plan rather than sold as a separate seat add-on
  • Apps for web, desktop, mobile and a Chrome extension, plus a public API

Cons

  • The breadth of options makes setup and day-to-day navigation complex
  • Free plan limits storage to 60 MB and gives AI only as a one-off 500-credit trial
  • Headline prices assume yearly billing; monthly is roughly a third more

Quila

Quila is a straightforward Kanban-and-tasks tool with an AI assistant layered on top, priced low enough ($7-19/month) to compete with free tiers of larger project managers rather than enterprise suites. It's one of several small AI apps from the same operator, which is a fine sign of a working shipping process but not evidence of long-term backing. The Free plan's one-project, one-member limit makes it mostly a trial rather than something a real team could run on.

Pros

  • AI assistant helps draft project plans and boards from a prompt
  • Starter and Pro tiers are priced well under most competing project tools
  • template library for recurring workflows
  • annual billing discount equivalent to four free months

Cons

  • Free plan's single-project, single-member limit is too small for real team use
  • no enterprise-grade features like SSO or audit trails mentioned
  • operated alongside several unrelated single-purpose AI apps by the same small company, which raises questions about long-term focus
