What our research says

CapCut

The free tier is still the most capable no-cost video editor most people will need: real multi-track editing, keyframes, chroma key and 1080p export without paying. Paid plans are now built around AI credits for Seedance video generation, so they pay off only if you generate footage regularly. A pricing page finally exists, but it quotes local-currency prices marked for reference only, and the final number still appears after sign-in.

Pros

  • The free tier includes multi-track timeline, keyframes, chroma key, speed ramping and 1080p export
  • One project syncs across iOS, Android, web, macOS and Windows
  • Automatic captioning and dubbing are fast and adequate for social output
  • Teams plan adds a brand kit and Pro features for every seat

Cons

  • Plan prices are shown in local currency 'for reference only'; final price, taxes and offers appear only after sign-in
  • Some Pro templates and effects stamp a watermark on free exports
  • Generative video is metered in credits, and the per-second rates quoted are first-month offers
  • No public API found, so it cannot be driven from a pipeline

Videoleap

One of the few mobile editors where the AI features are actually integrated into a real timeline rather than bolted on as one-tap gimmicks; the obvious problem is that CapCut does most of this for free.

Pros

  • Backed by Lightricks, a company more than a decade into mobile creative tooling, so the app is actively maintained
  • Both iOS and Android plus a browser editor, so projects are not locked to one device class
  • Generative tools (scenes, avatars, infinite zoom) sit inside the timeline instead of in a separate generator
  • Seven-day trial is long enough to test the paid AI features properly

Cons

  • No published web pricing — you only see the price at the app store paywall
  • Free tier watermarks exports, which rules it out for client work
  • No public API found, so nothing here scales to automated or bulk production
  • Heavy AI features on a phone are constrained by device performance and export quality

Which one fits

Choose CapCut if you need

  • Short-form creators cutting for TikTok, Reels and Shorts on a phone
  • Anyone who needs automatic captions and dubbing without a subscription
  • Editors who want the same project open on a phone and a laptop

Choose Videoleap if you need

  • Creators editing Reels and TikToks entirely on a phone
  • Quick object or background removal without opening a desktop NLE
  • Template-first output where speed matters more than a bespoke edit
